W3CPA Repeater is on the air!

After a 10 month wait, the W3CPA repeater is on the air!

The Clearfield County ARES-RACES Group, in cooperation with the Clearfield County Amateur Radio Club, has returned the county-owned amateur radio repeater to active service.  The W3CPA repeater operates on a frequency of 146.460 MHz with an offset of +1 MHz and a PL tone of 173.8 Hz.

Tuesday February 17, 2015 — 2.17.15

A crew from Centre Communications visited the Rockton Mountain Tower site on Tuesday February 17th late in the day and re-installed the repeater hardware at the request of the Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency. This action rectifies the situation created in April 2014 when the county-owned repeater was removed from service without authorization from the repeater owner, the Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency. It may have taken ten months to correct the misstep taken by the former operators of the county-owned repeater, but everyone involved is pleased to once again have the repeater on the air.

The Clerafield County Emergency Management Agency provides the repeater hardware and tower space for the purpose of supporting emergency communications, or EmComm, within Clearfield County. Amateur radio often plays a vital role providing back-up communications when disaster strikes and primary communications systems are either overloaded or fail. The W3CPA repeater will provide a backbone for the communicatiosn efforts within the county.  The Clearfield County ARES-RACES Team and the Clearfield County Amateur Radio Club members routinely train for EmComm communications work. If you are interested in becoming involved with emergency communications within Clearfield County, please contact Mike Errigo WB3EQW, the Clearfield County RACES Radio Officer and the ARES Emergency Cooridantaor.
