After heading up the ARRL Western Pennsylvania Section’s North 2 District as ARES District Emergency Coordinator for the past several years, John Szwarc N3SPW has decided it’s time to let someone else have a turn at the DEC position. His term as DEC will expire on January 1st 2015. In October John informed Harry W3YJ, the Western Pennsylvania Section Emergency Coordinator, of his desire to step down and let someone else run the show for a while. The three month notice was intended to give Harry ample time to find a replacement and provide for a smooth transition.
John recommended to Harry a couple of individuals who he thought would make good replacements. One of those individuals, Kevin Snyder KA3YCB, has accepted the challenge. Kevin has been serving the WPA Section ARES program as Emergency Coordinator in Jefferson County . According to John, “Kevin’s day job keeps him in touch with emergency services and I believe he is one of the most qualified individuals participating in the WPA Section ARES program. We are fortunate to have Kevin in our local area and the North 2 District will certainly benefit from his leadership.”
The WPA Section’s N2 District encompasses McKean, Potter, Cameron, Elk, Clinton, Jefferson, Clearfield and Centre Counties. As of December 2014, a total of 1,249 amateur radio operators reside within the eight county district.
